Want to Buy OnePlus One Without an Invite? You can on Every Tuesday
Since the Chinese handset maker OnePlus released their smartphone, the One, they used a unique ordering system. That system made it quite a difficult task to get your hands on their smartphone. You needed an invite to grab One, and you could only have gotten that invitation from someone already owning the phone, or a community event held by the company.
Getting OnePlus One meant you would need to stay committed to your decision to buy one. As it is far more easier to visit the likes of Amazon and order any other popular smartphone.
Invitation system was highly criticized by users and critics, as they believed it was a way to create hype and a sense of exclusivity among buyers.
Fans will be happy to know that the invitation system is being scrapped by the company, but for one day a week. OnePlus director Carl Pei stated they would like it to make it easier for everyone to by the One. In a statement on the company’s official blog, Carl Pei explained:
Over the past few months, we’ve been exploring new ways of making the OnePlus One easier to purchase. The overall amount of available invites has increased significantly, but we’ve also held pre-order and open sales events, allowing for purchases without the need for an invite.
He further added they will now hold regular open sales on Tuesdays:
Every Tuesday, we will open up sales for 24 hours, starting at 8 am London time (midnight in Los Angeles; 4 pm in Hong Kong). The OnePlus One will be available without an invite in both 16GB Silk White and 64GB Sandstone Black.
Holding open sales every Tuesday will surely help interested buyers get their hands on the device more conveniently. However, if they wish to really make it easier for us all, they should completely remove the invite system.
The reason behind this system is to balance-out demand and supply. Seems like a reasonable excuse, but to many it just looks like a way to keep the phone exclusive and generate more and more hype for the device.
It’s in our nature to go behind things we have a hard time getting our hands on, while not appreciating things that are easily available as much.
It’s a really smart business strategy, one that is really working in OnePlus One’s favor.
If you do plan on picking up a One for yourself, it’s now available every Tuesday for £229 (16GB) and £269 for (64GB).
