Vine Kids App is Launched – Viewing Kids Friendly Videos Made Easy
Vine videos often feature adult humor or other content that is not suitable for children. However, the company has now released a new app to give children a way to search and view suitable content.
The new app is called Vine Kids and is now available to download from the App Store. The available content is kids friendly and features funny videos, animated clips and more. Navigation is also easy; kids just have to swipe the video to the left and a separate Vine will play. In addition, funny sounds are made whenever a user taps on the screen.
Similar to YouTube and others, Vine is a video sharing website, which was founded back in June 2012. It was a three man company based in New York, and just before it could be officially launched, Twitter bought it for a reported $30 million.
Vine is not your average video sharing site; it lets users edit and post 6-second looping videos. For this reason it’s highly popular among teenagers.
Where did the idea of Vine Kids came from was explained by communication and marketing head at Twitter Carolyn Penner:
The idea came about during an office conversation in early January. One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine –– he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids.
He further added:
That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when we get to work on projects outside of our day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that. Here’s a Vine of my co-worker’s daughter using the app. How can you resist that smile?!
As I mentioned, the iOS version of the app is available for download and is for kids with an age of 5 or above. For now, there is no mention of Vine Kids for Android, but hopes are it will be announced in the near future.
Just last week, a new feature was added to twitter which allowed users to upload videos that were around 30 seconds. However, twitter stated that won’t affect Vine and it will keep its 6-sec limit.
