Amazon Launches WorkMail Service To Compete Against Industry Giants
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing unit from Amazon, has been growing quite rapidly. This is largely due to the innovation that the company has brought into its service, and it looks like that Amazon is not going to stop anytime soon. The E-commerce giant has announced a new Amazon WorkMail service as of today. WorkMail is said to be a secure managed email and a calendaring solution.
Furthermore, Amazon claims that this new service will be more cost-effective and more secure cloud solution when compared to those offered by Google and Microsoft. It will also offer an alternate on-premise hosting with a lot simpler licensing without any need for an expensive hardware.
The emails can still be sent using Microsoft Outlook but this new Amazon Technology will handle how the email is sent, received and stored. Amazon, on the process of integration, stated:
Customers can quickly integrate Amazon WorkMail with their existing corporate directory, choose encryption keys, select the location where they want their data to reside, and pay only for the mailboxes they create.
Not to anyone’s surprise, Amazon is planning on to integrate WorkMail with WorkDocs, which is the company’s document management service that was previously known as Zocalo. Apart from reducing the cost, Amazon is promising that all the security and privacy options will be totally in control of the users unlike other cloud-based services which have been hacked before.
Unlike other cloud-based email services, Amazon WorkMail allows customers to retain full control over the location of their data by choosing the AWS Region where their data is stored.
This new service will launch in the spring of this year and will cost the user $4 per month for a 50 GB of mailbox usage. However, if you add WorkDocs to the mix as well, then the subscription cost will automatically increase to $6 a month.
It is definitely a huge step forward from Amazon to improve its Web Services, which have been growing in popularity at a pretty fast pace, and I am sure that, with this new WorkMail service, more people will be attracted to company.
Most of the people feel unsafe when uploading their personal stuff on the cloud as they feel that they can get hacked, but with Amazon providing options for more privacy, they will be inclined towards using it.
What do you think of this new service introduced by Amazon? Are you looking forward to give it a try when it becomes available in the coming months? Let us know!
