Twitter Acquires India-Based Mobile Marketing Startup ZipDial
Some reports started to come in last week which stated that Twitter is planning on to acquire a marketing platform ZipDial, which has been growing in popularity for quite some time now. The reports revealed that Twitter will be paying the amount of 30 to 40 million USD for the acquisition, which seemed the right amount as there’s a lot of demand for ZipDial.
Today, Twitter has officially confirmed that it has successfully acquired ZipDial, however, the amount of deal hasn’t been provided just yet. Twitter, after the acquisition, wrote on its official blog:
We’re very pleased to announce we’ve reached an agreement to acquire ZipDial, a product partner based in Bangalore, India, to make Twitter even more accessible to people around the world. Over the next several years, billions of people will come online for the first time in countries like Brazil, India and Indonesia.
For many, their first online experience will be on a mobile device – but the cost of data may prevent them from experiencing the true power of the Internet. Twitter, in partnership with ZipDial, can make great content more accessible to everyone.
Those of you, who are unfamiliar with ZipDial must know that it is a marketing platform that allows people to call on a certain phone number for a business, and hang it up before any charges have been incurred. Right after that, a call or an SMS with the information regarding the business will be sent to your number, so that you can know more about it without wasting any money. This type of marketing is called “Miss Call Marketing.”
Twitter explains on its blog that it wasn’t only the ZipDial’s miss call marketing that attracted them towards the platform, instead the social networking site got interested in because this platform provides access to great content such as audio programming, cricket scores, all the tweets from the stars and a lot more.
ZipDial is an India-based company that was founded in 2010, and its main objective of providing information to the people around as fast as possible on the mobile phones is in the alignment with Twitter’s, which could very well be the main reason behind the acquisition.
This marketing tool will enhance Twitter’s performance even more, as it will make the famous platform accessible to a large sum of people.
It sure seems like a great acquisition by Twitter, but only time will tell whether it will go in their favor or not. However, from the looks of it, we can safely assume that it is a perfect partnership that will help both parties involved.
