New Lumia Camera App Introduces Dynamic Flash, HDR, Among Other Features
Microsoft’s new Lumia Camera software has started rolling out on Microsoft Lumia smartphones and packs a host of features which improve camera’s performance greatly.
One of the biggest improvements that users will notice with Lumia Camera software is camera’s response time. Default camera software on Lumia smartphone is painfully slow, but this improved software makes up for it. Furthermore, the application also brings some minor changes made to autofocus.
Another thing introduced by the said application is rich capture mode. RCM essentially calculates the best mode to capture images. With RCM, users can manually adjust HDR level, exposure level, and even flash level; depending upon the time of the day and light conditions.
Dynamic Flash featured in RCM allows users to adjust flash on a slider to see how an image will look without any flash, moderate flash, and with fully-enabled flash. The same principle is applied to Dynamic HDR and exposure mode. The slider basically lets users take multiple results with different settings and compare the results.
Last but not the least, Microsoft has also added a new video capture mode in which users can press and hold the “shutter” button to record videos at 4K quality a lot quicker and “then save still 8.3-megapixel images from a slider view afterwards.”
Unlike many other popular applications, Lumia Camera Software seems to work and is definitely a step in the right direction. Despite the fact that the default camera applications on iPhone, HTC, and Samsung work satisfactorily, there are some good lessons to take from this application.
