‘Ship Your Enemies Glitter’ Founder Wants People To Stop Using His Service
You’ve made your bed, now lie in it.
I never paid much attention to this old saying until today. Why? Because “Ship Your Enemies Glitter” founder Matthew Carpenter is asking people to stop using his service.
Here’s what happened: Our young Matthew had an ultimate business idea or should I say an ultimate troll idea, and unlike many other ideas which require resources and hard work, he just needed a website and a ton of glitter.
All he wanted to make a few bucks by giving people the satisfaction of revenge. Now the question is, how can a website combined with some glitter be used for revenge?
It’s simple! If you hate your neighbor, your boss, ex-girlfriend, or anyone else; just pay $4.99 and SYEG will send your enemies an unmarked and anonymous envelope filled with glitter.
The recipient opens the envelope and that’s it, they’ll be swimming in glitter. Not only that, but the service promises to send a note in the envelope that has two benefits:
We’ll also include a note telling the person exactly why they’re receiving this terrible gift. Hint: The glitter will be mixed in with the note thus increasing maximum spillage.
Thousands of orders were placed within the first 24 hours. However, Matthew never realized how hard it will be to deal with all that glitter. So, in a desperate attempt to stop people from using his service, he posted on Product Hunt:
Hi guys, I’m the founder of this website. Please stop buying this horrible glitter product — I’m sick of dealing with it. Sincerely, Mat.
Matthew’s idea was a viral hit and within 24 hours had 30,000 Facebook shares, 3,900 up-votes, and 1000 comments on Reddit. ShipYourEnemiesGlitter.com gathered the attention of publications all over and Matthew became an overnight celebrity.
However, it all turned into a nightmare for him pretty soon. The overwhelming response was just too much for someone with no resources to handle it all.
Carpenter will now have to work overtime to keep up with demand and what can I say about all those trips he’ll be making to the post office.
If you want to be a viral hit like him, then you should know that our young entrepreneur is also the author of an eBook called “How to Build, Market, and Sell Your Website for Fun and Profit.” He’s not exactly having fun right now but he surely is making a profit!
