Gogoro: A Smart Scooter With Swappable Batteries Options
One of the most fascinating gadgets shown at CES 2015 was Gogoro, popularly referred to as the “Tesla of Scooters.” Gone are the days when you had to wait for hours to charge your scooter since Gogoro makes use of swappable batteries. Despite being entirely electric, it can reach speeds around 60 MPH and is assembled using techniques which are often used by luxury car manufacturers.
Gogoro comes with a built-in application which can be synced with either iOS or Android-based device. This allows riders to customize the appearance of Gogoro’s lights, keep track of battery levels, positioning, emergency calls, and even locate battery swapping stations.
But if we speak of Gogoro’s best feature, it’s got to be the freedom of battery swapping. At any given time, riders can open up the seat and find two removable batteries underneath. According to its manufacturers, it roughly takes about 6 seconds to change the batteries and be on one’s way. All that riders are required to do is to remove the batteries, plug them into the station, get other charged ones, place them under the seat, and voila!
In addition to this, Gogoro is also able to keep track of your riding habits and will send you notifications detailing when you ought to replace your batteries.
As of this instant, the manufacturers have not provided a concrete release date or expected price range, but in an interview with Business Insider, Gogoro CEO Horace Luke said that their targeted audience is between age 18 to 28 and will offer Gogoro for a competitive price.
