Asus Unveils Flagship ZenFone 2 And World’s Slimmest 3x Optical ZenFone Zoom
Asus’ flagship ZenFone’s next generation was unveiled at CES 2015, and has ventured into the photography arena this time. Instead of the three Zen devices launched last year, Asus stepped down to two devices this year: the flagship ZenFone 2, and a camera-focused companion, the ZenFone Zoom.
The ZenFone 2 is a fine piece of technology, both visually and technologically appealing. Encased in a refined body, ZenFone 2 features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS+ screen, with an ultra-narrow bezel which reduces the flagship’s overall size.
ZenFone 2 is powered by a 2.3GHz 64-bit Intel Atom processor – Z3580 and has 4GB of RAM. For connectivity, it comes equipped with an Intel LTE-Advanced modem. And the ZenUI has been updated to provide more opportunities for personalization.
Though ZenFone 6 had a higher capacity at 3230 mAh, ZenFone 2’s 3000 mAh battery also provides enough power “to get through the day,” thanks to the fast-charge technology which will allow the battery to be charged up to 60 percent in 39 minutes.
With all the focus on the camera, ZenFone 2 comes with advanced PixelMaster camera technology, and a 13 MP camera with the following features:
- Wide aperture lens
- Low-light mode
- Backlit HDR mode
- Real Tone flash feature which automatically adapts to different lighting conditions
ZenUI has been updated with more options for customization: touch gestures under the ZenMotion brand, SnapView to differentiate personal and business information, and Trend Micro built in to the ZenUI browser.
The ZenFone 2 will start at $199 (2GB RAM/16GB ROM), Asus says, and will be available in luscious colors like: Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamor Red, and Ceramic White.
However, no shipping date has been announced yet.
The ZenFone Zoom
Though ZenFone 2’s camera has been loaded with a lot of improvements, Asus saved the best for its ZenFone Zoom. At just 11.95 mm thick, the device is being cited by Asus as the world’s thinnest 3X optical Zoom smartphone, and also the thinnest phone with a 13 MP shutter.
Like its launch-sibling ZenFone 2, ZenFone Zoom also has a 13-megapixel rear camera but it also features:
- 10 element lenses
- 3X optical zoom
- 12X digital zoom
- Optical image stabiliser to reduce photo blur
- Fast focus feature (laser auto focus)
For all the professional photographers, the ZenFone Zoom also offers a “manual mode,” so they can take control of ISO settings, shutter speed and much more.
No information was given about the price and available data of the Zoom.
In addition to the smartphones, Asus has launched a new Windows-based range of hardware known as the Asus Transformer Book Chi Series.
