Samsung’s Upgraded Galaxy Note 4 Will Not Have Snapdragon 810
We started hearing rumors in December that Samsung will launch a new version of Galaxy Note 4 that will be even more beefed up than the current one. It was reported that Samsung was testing another version of Note 4 that had more powerful Snapdragon 810 processor.
The chip maker Qualcomm was also reportedly facing problems in meeting high demands of the chip as next flagship phones like Galaxy S6 and LG G4 are rumored to be powered by Snapgdragon 810. Despite of this fact, the rumors kept circulating around that beefed up version of Galaxy Note 4 will feature Snapdragon 810.
Samsung also confirmed that there will be another version of Galaxy Note 4 and it will be more powerful than the current one stating that it will be “world’s first LTE Advanced tri-band carrier aggregation smartphone.” Hence it will allow for lightning-speed downloads. AnandTech believed that all of this will be made possible using Snapdragon 810.
However, a Samsung spokesperson confirmed that it is not the case. Although there will be a powerful version Galaxy Note 4, it will not be powered by Snapdragon 810. Instead, it will run Samsung’s own Exynos chip.
All of the specs will be same as the previous version of the phone but a more powerful modem will be added. The initial version of Galaxy Note 4 came with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 APQ8084 which is a 2.7GHz quad core Krait 450 part. In some markets, a variant of Galaxy Note 4 comes with Samsung’s Exynos 5433 which has four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores in a big.LITTLE configuration.
The newer (and third) version of Note 4 will have the same Exynos 5433, but it will include Samsung’s SS333 modem allowing for high speed downloads. Samsung is also emphasizing on its high-speed network connectivity. It will support up to 300Mbps on current LTE networks, and 450Mbps on future LTE networks.
So the more “powerful” version will just support high speed downloads. All of the other specs are same as the first and second version of the phone.
However, it might be the case that Samsung wanted to equip the newer version with Snapdragon 810 but the unavailability of chip from Qualcomm came in the way. But these are just rumors as Samsung’s spokesperson has confirmed that the newer version will feature Exynos 5433.
