Google+ Can Enhance Your Videos To Look Better
We are making more videos now, thanks to mobile devices. But all of us are not so good at capturing jaw-dropping videos. Google knows that and is now offering Auto Enhance feature on Google+ that will automatically tweak your videos to make them look better.
Google has been enhancing photos on its Photos platform. So the new feature is not so new to those who have already used it. The same feature will be applied to the videos you capture and sync through Google Auto Backup.
This feature is not enforced on you, which means Google will not automatically tweak any video you upload. If Google thinks that it can improve a video, a banner will appear in Google+ to web users that will ask if they want to let Google enhance the video.
If they allow it, a preview of enhanced video will be shown after which user can apply changes. You can also opt to let Google automatically enhance the video every time you upload one. All you have to do is upload the video on Google+ Photos either directly or via Auto Backup.
Google engineer Tim St. Clair announced in a blog post that this new feature will optimize videos’ lighting, color and stability. Soon, a new feature will be added that will automatically enhance speech in the video too.
The preview shown after applying video enhance feature shows side-by-side comparison of original and enhanced video. It is a low-res 240p preview which is a bit blurry and you cannot really judge the quality of enhanced video in such a small window. But considering the fact, that this feature takes a bit of computing power, maybe it is the only way to show the preview.
However, it doesn’t mean that video is not so improved as compared to the original one. The feature works great and really makes your videos look better.
Google has long offered a similar feature in YouTube. It is likely that this auto enhance feature operates in the same way. In addition, YouTube also offers options to manually change contrast, saturation, and color temperature of the videos. Google+ has not given so many functions mainly because people at Google+ are not as quality conscious as those on YouTube.
This feature is available in Google+ on Windows, Mac, and Chrome OS. You can also use it from ‘More’ menu and in the Google+ Photos app.
