Sony’s Biopic To Star Seth Rogen And Jessica Chastain
A few days ago we told you all fan girls – and boys- that Christian Bale was starring in Sony’s biopic on Steve Jobs. Guess who’s now being watched carefully by the producers?
Jessica Chastain and Seth Rogen.
Rogen is being eyed to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak opposite Christian Bale in the movie, whereas Chastain’s role is yet to be specified. None of the actors have closed deals with the film yet. Wozniak created the Apple I and co-created Apple II in mid 70s.
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) is directing the biopic from a script by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), who had access to Jobs’ authorized biography by Walter Isaacson.
The film is not a traditional biopic. It will feature three, real time, backstage scenarios prior to launches of the first Macintosh in 1984, and Apple’s iPod debut in 2001.
Real time scenarios refer to the time in real life and in the movie as being the same. For example, 15 minutes of what happened in real with Steve Jobs backstage, will be shown for 15 minutes in the movie in the exact manner.
With Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady producing the film, Sony has high hopes for the film, and expects it to be an awards contender in the future.
With Bale in the bucket, the potential of the film to soar was already determined. However, now having Rogen in the league might set the stage on fire. He has proven himself with his performances in “Take This Waltz” and “50/50.”
Rogen’s potential pairing with Bale has been compared to Martin Scorsese’s decision to cast Jonah Hill alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
Rogen is already starring in a Sony production,“The Interview,” opposite James Franco. It is expected to be released on Christmas. Rogen and producing partner Evan Goldberg co-directed the R-rated comedy, just as they did another of Sony’s upcoming film.
Rogen recently finished Sony’s untitled Christmas Eve movie, on which he collaborated with his 50/50 partners, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and director Jonathan Levine.
Seth Rogen is represented by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and attorney Fred Toczek.
Chastain previously starred in Sony’s “Zero Dark Thirty” and has a close relationship with studio chief Amy Pascal. She next stars in Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” and will soon be seen opposite Oscar Isaac in “A Most Violent Year.”
She is represented by CAA and Mosaic.
