iPhone 6 Beats Galaxy Note 4 In Sales In Samsung’s Home Ground
The smartest move Apple has done so far this year is the launch of 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Despite of having many issues in design and software, Apple has still managed to top sales in almost all major regions.
But can they do it in Samsung’s home country South Korea? The question is not whether they “can” or not, they already have. According to The Wall Street Journal, the three mobile carriers of the country who introduced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the market have released their stats that favor Apple over Samsung by a huge margin.
KT Corp. reported that they sold 10,000 iPhone units in a minute and after thirty minutes, the number rose to 50,000. That’s like more than 1.5k orders per minute!
LG U+ — the mobile carrier which is selling iPhone for the first time — sold 20,000 iPhones 6 units within 20 minutes. SK Telecom reported that they had sold first and second batch of iPhone units and the third will be launched on Monday.
Note that all of these were preorders that were opened by both Samsung and Apple on Friday for Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 respectively. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in stores starting from October 31st.
Apple is clearly favored over Samsung in South Korea, and the reason is believed to be the bigger-sized iPhone 6 Plus. IBK Securities analyst Lee Seung-woo said that the big screen is the biggest factor in Apple’s success.
“But with Apple piggybacking on Samsung’s large-screen strategy, there are concerns that Samsung will lose its only advantage, which has been its large screen sizes,” said Lee.
Lee predicts that Apple will sell five times more iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units than Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 pair. Samsung had 63% market share in the region in the second quarter while Apple had 6%. The stats are going to change rapidly with the new iPhones.
Also, Samsung has sold 4.5 million Galaxy Note 4 units globally in first month. Apple sold as many units in China only.
However, as the stats suggest and the trend is seen, Apple is enjoying a huge success not only in South Korea but in the whole world.
