Another Design Issue Arises In iPhone 6 After Bendgate
On a scale of zero to Apple, how disappointed were you when you heard about iPhone 6 Plus’ bending capabilities inside pockets? If you think that was worst that could happen to Apple’s flagship phone, you are wrong. BGR reported that there is a new problem in iPhone 6’s body as told by their readers.
The problem as reported by a few iPhone 6 owners, who asked to keep their identity secret, is that after sliding iPhone in and out of the pockets of jeans for a period of time, some of the dye from jeans rubs off with the plastic lining at the back of iPhone’s body.
The result? It makes your iPhone look ugly and old. The plastic strips get discolored and look unsightly.
Below are the photos sent by one of the victims. Have a close look at the plastic strips to see the issue.
The problem was obviously encountered by those who didn’t use protective cases on their iPhones. If you use protective cases, you are safe.
The plastic strips basically give some breathing room to the antennas inside iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple could have opted for glass strips (as many fans were expecting) instead of plastic ones.
The victims of “Dyegate” (following the Bendgate trend) tried to clean the strips using common liquids but none seemed to work.
Those who reported the issue to Apple Support received similar responses. The support team asked them to clean the strips using common cleaning products, but it didn’t solve the issue. Perhaps, the damage is permanent as plastic gets rubbed off and it cannot be cleaned.
This issue is not new in smartphones. Last year’s HTC One had similar plastic strips to cover the internal antennas, and it suffered the same issue caused by jeans. However, it could be cleaned using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser easily. It is not known whether this technique will work on iPhone 6 or not.
Apart from hardware design issues, Apple is facing a lot of problems in its software as well. With the release of iOS 8 came a plethora of bugs, then came iOS 8.0.1 that was taken down after 2 hours, and then iOS 8.0.2 was released.
Apple kept the update for few days and released iOS 8.1 few days ago with more bug fixes and improved features.
Let’s just pray Apple doesn’t disappoint the fans anymore. On the other hand, Google’s flagship of this year Nexus 6 is being praised for a beautiful design having 5.9-inch pixel rich display and powerful specs.
