‘Twilight’ Short-Movies To Be Shown On Facebook, Indicates Facebook’s Future With Hollywood
Good news Twilight fans!
Lions Gate — the company that released “Twilight” series — is now looking forward to reviving the series by creating short-movies based on “Twilight” characters. These efforts by the company are first of their kind, and indicate that Facebook has its future associated with Hollywood.
Twilight creator Stephanie Meyer and Lions Gate announced this Tuesday that five female directors would be selected to make short-films, which will be financed by Lions Gate and its partners. The interesting and first-of-its-kind strategy is that the movies will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year.
The move will also encourage female directors to find their way into Hollywood. It is backed by Women In Film, an organization which is devoted to promote female directors.
In the past, we have seen remakes and sequels of hit movies. Every movie’s marketing team had to spend millions for the promotional events. Lions Gate looks to eliminate those native practices by focusing on social media for promotion.
Although recently many movie makers have begun to focus on social media platforms, but this move by Lions Gate is unique as they plan to show the movies exclusively for Facebook users.
The plan about how they would make it work has not been revealed. However, we can guess what it would be like. Lions Gate may set up a channel on Facebook, that would require special sign-up procedure and the exclusive users will be able to watch those movies.
In return, Facebook might make big deals with production companies. The production companies like Lions Gate can take advantage of the engagement features like Comments that Facebook provides. It would help them promote their movies and engage with fans at the same time.
People love to watch movies in cinemas with original cast watching with them in the same cinema. Imagine you are watching exclusive content for next Hunger Games sequel and talking with Jennifer Lawrence in the same window.
In whatever way Facebook exploits this opportunity, the company will become much bigger than what it is right now. Facebook already has 1.3 billion monthly users. Such huge user-base carry a lot of potential for movie makers to promote their movies.
As for Twilight’s upcoming short films, Lions Gate wants to revive the series, promote female directors, and experiment their move. Note that original cast members of Twilight saga are not expected to feature in these movies.
“This is the just the beginning — a template, if you will,” said Lions Gate’s vice chairman Michael Burns. “You can probably guess what might be coming next.”
