Xiaomi Redmi 1S Becomes World’s 4th Best-Selling Smartphone
Although all the fuss today is about Apple’s latest releases including iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, other brands are slowly coming up to the competition as well.
In today’s world, smartphones need to go cheap as people are no longer willing to pay extra bucks for a smartphone. This is because these devices, once used for luxury, have now become a necessity. Hence, smartphone market is seeing the rise of low-cost phones from the likes of Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Google with its Android One as well. Microsoft is also working with manufacturers to provide low-cost smartphones.
OnePlus One gained so much popularity just because it provides high-end specs at ridiculously low rate — $300. Xiaomi is another Chinese smartphone manufacturer that is also providing low-cost yet great smartphones. Xiaomi provides 14 percent of the total smartphones being shipped in China, and hence because of China being the most populated country and being the largest market, Xiaomi became the world’s fifth largest smartphone manufacturer.
Xiaomi also surpassed Samsung in China to become the top smartphone seller in the country.
One of the best phones by Xiaomi is Redmi 1S which has become world’s 4th best-selling smartphone.
Redmi 1S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8228 which is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It features Adreno 305 GPU which is also found in Moto G. It has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage with a microSD slot that supports up to 64GB. The body is 9.9mm thick, and weighs around 158g. It has 4.7-inch IPS display providing 1280 x 720 resolution.
It also features an 8MP rear camera and a 1.6MP one at front. The phone has 2,000 mAh battery and runs MIUI on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
But the best thing about Xiaomi Redmi 1S? It is available for just around $100. This is the biggest selling point of this phone that has made it the 4th best-selling phone of the world.
Strategy Analytics’ Country Share Tracker (CST) published a research about Q2 2014 which said that Redmi 1S was more popular than most of the smartphones in the world. It is not only popular in China but in India too. 40,000 units of this phone were sold in just 4.2 seconds in a flash sale held on an Indian store Flipkart.
Price is the thing that is driving sales for Redmi 1S. Xiaomi’s strategy is working well so far but they have begun to see competition from the likes of OnePlus who also happens to be Chinese.
Xiaomi plans to launch its phones in North America next year.
