Nokia Announces Its Affordable Flagship Lumia 830 and Selfie Smartphone Lumia 730
The Nokia 930, being considered the flagship, contains everything a smartphone user wants: high performance, hi-res screen, and an awesome camera. However, it overlooks the average user’s wallets. Starting at $600, many people will choose a lesser awesome quality phone for cheaper price. And flying to the rescue, is Lumia 830.
Lumia 830, at 330 Euros (around $435) comes with almost all features of the Flagship, therefore being coined as the “Affordable Flagship.” It still has the aluminum sides and polycarbonate back, but has lost 1.5mm of bulkiness, going down from 10mm in 930 to 8.5mm. Moreover, the entire back panel is removable, allowing us to access the battery along with increasing storage. You can now add an extra 128 GB to the already available 16GB in the smartphone wonder.
To gain something, you have to lose something. Though the 830 is pretty much similar to Lumia 930, to meet the low price ends, there have been a few modifications in the features like those of the camera. The camera does have the PureView and Zeiss optics but has a 10MP sensor instead of the 20 MP. This move was made by Microsoft because the phone holds the thinnest OIS module at just 4.5mm in any Lumia phone so far.
“We wanted to bring the capability so that you can get really good shots in day and in night,” says Microsoft Mobile Devices rep Ifi Majid.
Apart from the camera, the rest of the features are pretty much standard:
- 5-inch 720p screen
- 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 2200mAh battery
The Lumia 830 will come with Nokia’s latest software update called Denim, and other interesting peripherals like the charger telling when your Nokia needs juice.
Though Nokia may be branding 830 as an “affordable flagship,” it is still a little pricey for the people, comparing it to the grandiose Nexus 5 at an affordable $350. So Nokia has also announced the Lumia 730 – the “Selfie phone” – which will be available at a mere $260.
The phone does not come with any new features, as it is just an update to the 720. However, one change has been made to the front camera, a pretty cool one at that, with a 5MP, wide angle lens for having more “friends per selfie.”
The Lumia Selfie app, is the main focus for the 730 and 735 but will be available for other devices soon as well. The app will store your favorite filters and use face recognition to capture the image once you’re in focus. But if you’re not a selfie fanatic, the phone has nothing extraordinary to offer, comparing it to the 830.
The features are the same old, with a 2220 mAh battery and microSD expansion, and just 8GB storage. Like the 830, the selfie smartphone will have a Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB memory, and HD resolution but on a 4.7-inch OLED display.
If you’re a selfie addict, and a miser one at that, the 730 is the perfect solution. If you’re a selfie addict who’s willing to pay a little $$$ for a better selfie, you can even get the PureView model of the phone.
