LG Teases Round Smartwatch To Compete With Moto 360
LG revealed in a 30-seconds video teaser on their Youtube channel (LG Mobile Global) that their next smartwatch will be circular in shape unlike G Watch, which is somewhat rectangular.
A number of manufacturers have started working on smartwatches. Samsung, Motorola, LG, Apple are all rumored to be working on smartwatches. Among all the current smartwatches, Moto 360 is the most popular one because of its circular shape as it gives a feel of a classic watch.
LG has discovered this fact and has revealed that it will be releasing the successor of G watch, the stylish round shaped smartwatch, at IFA 2014. IFA 2014 will be held next week in Berlin, and the circular shaped LG smartwatch would be named “LG G Watch R.”
The timing of this announcement suggests that LG adopted a very good strategy to compete with other smartwatch manufacturers like Motorola. Moto 360 was announced two months ago, and the audience loved the circular design that Motorola’s version of smartwatch had.
LG has announced its own version of circular shaped smartwatch after only 2.5 months of the announcement of LG G watch, which was rectangular shaped and did not have a spectacular design. It means that LG has been working on G Watch R in parallel with G Watch as it usually takes five to six months to work on a new design.
LG actually released a concept design to sort out all the bugs, and to fix them in the later stylish release – G Watch R. Well played LG!
LG is not the only manufacturer working on smartwatches. Microsoft was expected to be working on their version of smartwatch, Apple has been rumored about their smartwatch having more than ten sensors, HTC has something similar in the hood, and ASUS will be launching their smartwatch at IFA 2014 as well.
The only details revealed in the teaser are that G Watch R will be circular shaped, and that it will be released at IFA 2014. We are still unsure about its specs, price and availability.
Because of open nature of Android, Android Wear apps have already begun to pop up at Google’s Playstore for Android Wear. While smartwatches are providing many opportunities to the companies to work on, smartwatches manufacturers are keen on releasing stylish designs – like LG G Watch R’s circular design — to attract more people.
