IXION Windowless Jet Shows More Views Than Windows Do
International Yacht and Aviation Award winner, Technicon Design, has turned flying over blue endless skies into an exhilarating experience.
The Paris based company has put forward the concept of a private windowless jet, which would at the same time have walls made of windows. Confused a bit? Well, this plane is going to have a windowless fuselage, but will provide passengers with a 360-degree panoramic, real time view of the atmosphere around them with high-resolution images inside the cabin – on the walls.
The private jet, being called the IXION airplane, will have cameras mounted on the outside of the plane to capture the surroundings and project it on the inside of the cabin walls. This would give passengers the feeling of literally “flying through air” because the view would not be restricted from just one tiny window; instead they would feel the plane is see-through.
Gareth Davies, the Design Director at Technicon, said in a press release:
The user experience is greatly enhanced by directly engaging the passengers with the environment outside, to the point of exhilaration by giving an unhindered panoramic view from the inside.”
However, for people having fear of heights and fear of falling, this very idea of soaring through air at 30,000 feet with no apparent walls around them might be a little overwhelming. For such passengers, the plane has a range of numerous panoramic artificial scene to be displayed.
You could be flying over a 360-degree view of Paris or flying underwater. You could be in a library, or flying in outer space. This plane has all its views sorted out, to make the passenger feel as comfortable as possible.
But it is not just the outstanding use of technology that blows us away. The IXION airplane will also provide the following features:
- Hand gestures driven control of the displays, cabin environment and personal TVs
- You can see different views at the same time on the same screen with parallax barrier technology
- In flight conference calls
- Passenger tracking technology with personalized avatar
Apart from the breathtaking experience and comfort the jet provides to the passengers, it will also provide engineers the luxury of easier construction of the jet because of the windowless fuselage – leading to lower fuel costs and weight reduction as a whole.
However, the displays will require a lot of power. Hence, to cater for most of the low-voltage systems in the plane, amorphous solar panels will be installed on top of the plane.
