iPhone 6 Rumored To Feature NFC, Wireless Charging, A Bigger Screen And More
The iPhone 6 will enter the market this fall and is expected to come with some highly-anticipated features, including wireless charging, a bigger screen, a better 4G antenna and more.
Let go ahead and take a look at some features that are expected for Apple to put into its new device.
Faster LTE Radio:
The previous versions of iPhones, namely the iPhone 5 series have a Category 4 LTE Radio which is capable of connecting speeds of upto 150 megabits per second. The iPhone 6 will double that speed with a Category 6 LTE Radio with connecting speeds of 300 mbps.
The new radio is not yet an LTE advance radio, but it is still considered an step towards the new wireless frontier.
For those of you who are not that aware of the LTE, it actually gives 3.3 gigabits per second of peak download rates in optimal conditions.
NFC Wireless Charging:
Apple was just about to put near field communication (NFC) radio in its previous line of iPhones; however, the company experienced some constraints from the nascent mobile payments ecosystem.
Apple will now be putting its NFC radio in the iPhone 6 which will allow users to make mobile payments in a similar fashion as Android users already do with Google Wallet.
It is not yet clear if Apple has aligned itself with ISIS payment standard. However, it is more likely that Apple will be coming up with its own method for mobile payments to compete with both ISIS and Google Wallet.
The iPhone 6 screen size will have a marked difference from its predecessors. Sources state that there will be more space consumed on the front of the phone leading to a smaller hardware border around the screen compared to previous iPhones.
Apple has already been under a lot of pressure to increase its phone’s screen size, but it has not properly catered to that need until now. People have demanded larger screens to be able to consume more content on their phones.
Also, iPhone’s competitors, the Android devices of Samsung and others are already selling well, and Apple can’t ignore that fact.
According to some reports, the new iPhone will sport a pixel tripling (3X) mode display, which will triple the “base resolution” of 568 x 320 and result in a 1,704 x 960 resolution of the iPhone’s screen.
This would essentially bump up the current resolution (1136 x 640) by 150%.
Reports have also stated that the iPhone 6 will be given a scratch-resistant covering.
It looks like Apple is ready to commit to a wireless standard, either the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) or the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). Which of these two standards Apple will commit to is still unknown.
As far as wireless charging goes, sources have stated that there is a surface under the shell of the iPhone 6 that connects to an inductive charging surface for energy transfer.
Though all these features are part of the design, Apple has had a history of removing one thing or the other from its design at the last minute. Therefore, it’s better that we just wait and see what the company has in store for us.
