The OnePlus One is a Budget Android Handset With the Most Impressive Specs
Described as a 2014 flagship killer, the OnePlus One looks like the best deal on an Android phone yet.
The OnePlus One is not to be confused with HTC’s product of the same name. Developed around the mantra, ‘Never Settle’, OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone startup, and the One is company’s first go at a smartphone.
OnePlus One is a beautifully designed sleek smartphone that packs a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD display with Touch on Lens technology protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quad-core processor (making it the world’s current fastest available processor in a smartphone), 3GB of RAM, 16/64GB storage, 13-megapixel 6-lens Sony Exmor rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, and 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 80-degree capture angle.
The phone comes with a 3100mAh non-removable lithium polymer battery, which makes it better than the HTC One M8 or the Galaxy S5 in terms of fueling. However, OnePlus needs to be a bit open about battery run time, other than just saying it offers “all day power efficiency.”
As for connectivity, the One can sport GSM, WCDMA, and LTE on global bands, as well as Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, and NFC including software card support.
The OnePlus One features a custom firmware built in partnership with Cyanogen, thus integrating the CyanogenMod 11S. The special version will add various new features including advanced Camera and Gallery apps. It also offers tons of customization options, open access and lets users control how apps use their data enabling to better protect their privacy.
The OnePlus One offers Voice command that lets you wake the device or you can draw pre-set gestures on the sleeping screen to launch your favorite apps. Depending on your preferences, you can also choose between on screen and capacitive navigation buttons.
You can buy a new OnePlus One for $299 for a white 16GB version, and will also offer a 64GB variant in black for $349 when it goes on sale in mid-May. But you’ll be wondering where you can buy one? Well, the OnePlus One will be sold on an invite-only basis at launch
Devices are expected to be shipped to invitees in May. OnePlus One also plans to run contests and special offers to buy the device, the first of which will be unveiled April 25.
If you’re interested to purchase, you can sign up at the OnePlus website to keep in touch when the company decides to open up sales to the public.
